Tesla Unveils New Roadster Cockpit Tech

A new video reveals the fighter jet inspired interface and thruster controls for the upcoming electric sports car.

Tesla has finally given potential buyers a close look at the digital brains of its next generation Roadster. On Friday afternoon, the automaker posted a thirty-four second clip on the social platform X. The video serves as a detailed walkthrough of the vehicle's touchscreen experience. It offers the most comprehensive view of the interior technology available to date.

The visual presentation starts with a black screen featuring red graphics and a three dimensional wireframe of the car. This digital model sits next to the vehicle's distinctive squared off steering yoke. By tapping different areas of the model, drivers can access specific controls. One key function allows users to adjust the rear wing. They can choose between low drag and high downforce positions to suit their driving needs.

The interface also includes standard utility pages. There is a charging screen with a clear limit bar for battery management. A compact music player is also accessible for entertainment during the drive. A row of navigation tabs runs along the bottom of the display. These include Home, Vehicle, Listen, Climate, and Navigate for quick access to essential features.

A major focus of the demonstration is the Track Mode. In this setting, the dashboard displays a live map of the racing circuit. It also lists session lap times and provides real time data for brake and motor temperatures. The system offers specific pressure and temperature readouts for each individual tire. This level of detail allows drivers to monitor the health of their vehicle during high performance runs.

The setup page within Track Mode provides extensive customization options. Drivers can select from Auto, Low Drag, High Downforce, or Custom aero modes. They can also fine tune the aero balance and brake balance. For those seeking maximum control, the system allows users to switch off stability and traction control entirely.

A status bar at the bottom of the Track Mode screen displays specific hardware data. It shows the text Thruster 5,500 PSI alongside a Boost Ready indicator. This software feature connects directly to the physical hardware Tesla showcased near Waco, Texas, on October 15. The Thrust and Rocket versions of the car use cold gas thrusters. These are supplied by carbon overwrapped pressure vessels that store the gas.

Previous technical breakdowns of the three Roadster configurations highlight significant performance differences. The Thrust model is capable of reaching sixty miles per hour from a standstill in under 0.9 seconds. The top tier Rocket version achieves this in under 0.59 seconds. The base Performance model relies on a different approach for grip. It uses a fan and ground sealing system rather than rocket thrusters.

The interior layout of the Roadster differs from the rest of Tesla's current lineup. Instead of centering the home page around a navigation map, this vehicle places a model of the car itself in the center. Tesla's official page lists two smaller forward displays that accompany the main touchscreen. The company has not yet clarified if Track Mode telemetry will appear in other models like the Model 3 Performance.

While the interface is currently on display, it may still undergo changes before deliveries begin. Elon Musk stated at a recent event that Roadster production is scheduled to start in 2028. Tesla has noted that the flagship Rocket version is not yet approved for public road use. Reservations are open with a payment of fifty thousand dollars. The Thrust model is listed as a limited release, while the Rocket version is available on an invite only basis.

The public will have its first chance to see the vehicle in person this weekend. The Roadster is set to be displayed in the lobby of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles from October 24 to 27. Sawyer Merritt noted that this event marks the first time the general public can view the car up close. It provides a tangible reality check on the digital promises shown in the new video.
