Political gatherings in Israel frequently draw large and passionate crowds, but a recent incident in Tel Aviv has raised questions about security protocols and the temper of attendees. On Saturday night, police arrested a young man from the city of Givatayim following a physical confrontation with a security officer protecting a high-profile political figure.

The incident occurred while Naftali Bennett, the former prime minister and current chairman of the B’Yachad party, was speaking at a rally in Tel Aviv. The event was organized to demand the creation of a commission of inquiry into the events leading up to the October 7 massacre. According to initial reports, the atmosphere became tense as the former leader addressed the crowd.

The suspect, a 23-year-old man, allegedly approached the security perimeter surrounding Bennett while shouting a slogan in support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Witnesses and sources described the man as being under the influence of alcohol. He repeatedly chanted “Only Bibi,” a phrase used by supporters of the current government, while trying to move closer to the stage.

Security personnel attempted to maintain order by instructing the man to stay back. Despite these warnings, he continued to push toward the protected area. When one of the bodyguards physically pushed him back to restore the boundary, the man did not retreat. Instead, he turned to confront the officer and shoved him in return.

The altercation quickly drew the attention of the rest of the security detail. The guards worked together to subdue the man, holding him in place at the scene while they contacted law enforcement. Police officers arrived at the park where the rally was taking place and took the suspect into custody. He was then transported to a local police station for further questioning.

Preliminary checks by investigators revealed that the suspect had no prior criminal record. Authorities indicated that alcohol was likely a factor in his behavior at the time of the incident. Investigators are currently reviewing the circumstances to determine the full scope of the confrontation and any potential charges.

Bennett served as the prime minister of Israel from June 2021 to June 2022. His current political activities are taking place against the backdrop of an upcoming national election cycle. The incident occurred just days before the 2026 Knesset elections, adding a layer of political timing to the event.

The voting process for the upcoming elections has already begun for some segments of the population. IDF soldiers cast their ballots at military polling stations earlier this week. As the general public prepares to head to the polls, the incident highlights the continued intensity of political discourse in the lead-up to the vote.
