Musk Pours Millions Into Texas Race

A massive new funding boost aims to swing the balance in a tight Senate contest as the election approaches.

A fresh wave of cash has hit the political scene just days before the midterms.

Elon Musk transferred over $76 million to his personal committee, America PAC, during the first half of October. This money is intended to help Republican candidates in the final push of the election. A pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening reveals these significant contributions. The group has already put nearly $43 million to work in that short period. It now holds close to $47 million in cash for the remaining days of the campaign.

The Texas Senate contest absorbed the largest share of this new spending. The PAC directed $15.2 million toward that single race. That amount is double the total spent there during the summer months. Of that sum, $12.4 million went to attacks against Democratic nominee James Talarico. An additional $2.8 million promoted Republican candidate Ken Paxton. Daily filings show even more money following since then, adding $9.1 million to the effort against Talarico.

The strategy is shifting heavily toward digital platforms. The committee spent $11.4 million on online ads in those two weeks. That figure is nearly equal to what was spent on mail and text messaging combined. This cycle, Musk has donated more than $445 million to Republican groups. He stands as the largest known individual donor for these midterms. Over $165 million of that total has gone to America PAC since July. The committee did not offer any comment on the new figures.

Musk has also been active on social media regarding the Texas race. On Wednesday, he posted that something was deeply wrong with Talarico. He later called the candidate a creep and made unverified claims about family policies. He also amplified a false story about Talarico receiving mental health treatment. Talarico responded by noting the absurdity of a trillionaire trying to buy a Senate seat.

The race remains extremely close. A recent poll of likely voters found Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent. That gap is within the margin of error. The outcome matters greatly for Musk beyond state lines. If Democrats take the House, key committee leaders have signaled plans to investigate his role in DOGE. They also intend to look into federal contracts held by his companies. Some lawmakers describe the number of conflicts of interest as astounding.

Recent developments have added new targets for critics. Silicon Valley Democrats sent a letter to the White House on Friday. They requested an investigation into restrictions on SpaceX’s Starshield service in Ukraine. Several representatives vowed that the next Congress would scrutinize federal funding awarded to Musk’s businesses.
